LES DEUX SENS

PROGRAM: Residences for student artists in the artistic 19th District. Studio and study common rooms, dining, gym, and living areas. indoor galleries and auditorium and stepped roof terrace with an outdoor auditorium and cafe. commerical and retail along the river front ground floor.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT: Typical Parisian city block that lines the street with a courtyard in the middle. Cultural and civic spaces break that framework and extend on a city scale, rather than just the single city block.

DESIGN: The cantilevers create views looking out towards Parc De la Villette, while the other looks back toward the center of the city. They are also meant to frame views from the outside as one approaches the building from the canal or from any of the streets intersecting at the site.

MATERIALS: perforated aluminum skin, steel, concrete, glass
